Poorly Bunnies
Ok there are 100's of bunny illnesses too many to list, so infact what i am going to do on this page, is record any illnesses that we have had to deal with here and how we dealt with them. Im not saying that this is the right way to deal with these illnesses but this is what we have done and experienced. Please don't take this as gospel this is just our experiences.
Please remember that i am not a vet and if your bunny is poorly i cannot stress how important it is to see a vet.
This page will be updated as we experience anything relevant.

BLOAT
Not too long ago we had a entire litter that came down with bloat
The survival rate for bloat or Gi stasis is low
But we were lucky and managed to save 5 out of 8 babies.
These babies were 9 weeks of age.
With the help and support of other breeders and friends we were able to get five bunnies happy and healthy and fighting fit.
Symptoms that we experienced included: Huddled in the corner, bloated belly, glazed eyes, wobbly spine, not eating or drinking, grinding teeth in pain, not moving and a dirty bum.
We found that they stopped eating and drinking and just didnt move.
The most important thing we found in helping to get these little guys better was heat.
We bought them inside and put them in a carrier on a hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket, this seemed to help with the pain and dispel the gas in their bellies.
We also gave them 1ml of infacol morning and night and tried to massage their bellies where possible to help with the gas too.
We would get them out and try to get them to eat and drink we found that they would drink goats milk from a shallow dish or bowl as it was easier than drinking from a water bottle.
We just kept offering food, hay, readigrass. goats milk and water and sometimes had to syringe fluids into them.
Keeping them warm and making sure they had fluids was the most important things and day by day they slowly started picking at food and moving around.
It was about a 5-7 day illness and unfortunately 3 didnt make it.
We were lucky and had some help as you can imagine trying to look after 5 babies was very time consuming and we were also moving house.
So thanks to friends as well we had a good survival rate.
All 5 bunnies are now doing great and have all gone to their new homes
A few weeks later we also experienced Bloat with a 5 months old rabbit we treated her in exactly the same way and she is now a very happy healthy naughty bunny.
Try to keep them moving, keep them warm and keep there fluid levels up.
Also keep your fingers crossed and give them lots of cuddles and love.
